Sitting atop its stainless steel Super Heavy booster, Starship stood taller than the Statue of Liberty at the company's new orbital launchpad in South Texas. As the booster fell back to Earth, Starship continued to climb toward the heavens, then shut off its engines to glide through space. Once fully operational, Starship will be able to carry up to 150 metric tonnes (165 US tons) to space, per SpaceX. Any weight-loss drugs that hit the market in the future would also be excluded.

JPMorgan Chase is buying First Republic Bank after it was put into receivership from regulators earlier today. It's the third US bank to fail since March, following Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. The deal represents another chance for JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon to come to the rescue. Why its Wall Street rivals could follow suit. Read more on the report in The Wall Street Journal.
SpaceX's Starship rocket is the tallest rocket ever built, but just how tall is that? The Starship rocket consists of a first and second stage. Even close up, humans look tiny compared to Starship and Super Heavy:Stacking Starship on the Super Heavy booster. Making up the remaining six engines are Starship's powerhouse, which consist of three Raptor engines and three even larger Raptor Vacuum engines. In a video posted by Vice, Clarke addressed Clearlink's return-to-office mandate and said that many of his remote workers didn't open their laptops for a month. Online therapy fills a critical need — but it has a dark side. The data Loris used to create its "empathetic" software was generated from text conversations with people in distress, sourced from Loris' parent company, Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit suicide-prevention hotline. That is, however, according to Musk, who told Tucker Carlson that the two tech billionaires disagreed on safety and regulation. The real reason bosses are freaked out by remote work: they think it's for "sissies."
The rocket, which NASA has tagged for upcoming missions, is crucial to NASA's return to the moon. The highly anticipated Starship launch will determine whether NASA's Artemis moon program is on track for success. NASA's SLS relies on Starship for the moon landingA Starship prototype being launched. NASA's SLS rocket, by contrast, has a high price tag for the taxpayer: The project has cost $50 billion in development since the program's inception in 2006. All of this makes NASA's SLS a poor competitor to SpaceX's shiny new rocket.
AWS CEO Andy Jassy, who is set to become Amazon CEO, helped oversee the cloud unit's rise. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's total compensation plunged last year to $1.3 million. It may still seem like a lot of money, but in 2021, Jassy's total pay was over $200 million. Also, keep in mind that Jassy's base salary in 2022 was $317,500, an 80% leap from $175,000 in 2021. Musk's reign of chaos at Twitter may have saved it from collapse, but there's a long way to go.
Big tech companies continue cost cutting

Tech companies have chased short-term fads in a desperate attempt to win the favor of Wall Street investors — and it's making the online experience worse. As tech companies continue to focus on efficiency, it's clear that one metric is the most important: revenue per employee. After years of over-hiring, tech companies are now looking to squeeze the most efficient performance from each worker, my colleague Hasan Chowdhury reports. But it's another sign that tech companies are drifting away from pro-remote work policies. Google, Meta, and Microsoft have all failed to make their AR and VR devices into mainstream successes.
On the agenda today:But first: The panic over the AI boom hit a new peak this week. A prominent AI researcher went further, saying six months wasn't long enough, and "we need to shut it all down." But those fears also make sense against the backdrop of a shaky economy and a distrust of Big Tech. Goldman Sachs has forecast that AI systems could impact 300 million full-time jobs. AI has been described as the next transformational technology, on a par with the creation of the internet or the television.
Humanity has decided it can say 'no' to AI

The latest development in AI: humanity has decided it can say "no." Elon Musk was one of more than 1,000 people to sign an open letter calling for a six-month pause on advanced AI development. The letter cited several potential risks to humanity and society, including the spread of misinformation and automation of jobs. Bosses have forgotten how to say "good job" — and it's driving employees to quit. Big Tech's big downgrade.

Last fall, Chase announced plans to launch a co-branded DoorDash credit card in early 2023, and now the new card is available for applications. As for other benefits, many of the perks offered by the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® are also DoorDash centered. Unless you're really into DoorDash, you'll probably want to give the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® a skip.
Plus, it's even more gross, since this generation obsession appears to be a capitalism-fueled strategy to get our money. They stuck with Elon Musk along a bumpy ride: "production hell," multiple federal investigations, and other catastrophes. Meanwhile, the company keeps losing its edge elsewhere. This is pretty bleak for tech workers who were living large this time last year. TikTok's algorithm takes an opposite approach with spontaneous discovery, keeping users engaged for longer — and less likely to check Instagram. This creates a Catch-22 for the company, Chris adds. Its original model successfully captured a loyal and engaged audience, but is now an outdated approach for a social media platform. The chicken spot's snaking drive-thru made it a hazard to pedestrians, so a local North Carolina city ordered its demolition.

More middle-income households are shopping there, lured by low prices and Aldi's "treasure hunt" approach. Smaller properties are cheaper to buy and maintain, and Aldi has said that its store layout enables "quick and easy shopping." Monford added that consumers "don't mind" that products aren't taken out of their boxes because they're shopping at Aldi for value. Campbell said the Aldi stores near her generally had just four or five aisles. Vadakkepatt said Aldi's stores have fewer employees and shorter hours than at other chains.
